Accurately reporting on Sunshine State angling requires a lot of time in boats, and on the phone with one of my top sources on the First Coast is Captain Dennis Goldstein. He knows what's going on in his area, and whether we're talking on the phone or out chasing fish in the boat, he's always been a pleasure to work with. I've fished with him on several occasions and look forward to our next trip. He's the one that got me my first 150 lb tarpon, and my first eight lb trout!

During the 25 years I've been covering the Florida fishing scene for "Florida Sportsman", I've have the opportunity to fish with many of the best fishing guides in the state.  Captain Goldstein is certainly one of them. I have known Capt. Dennis for a number of years dating back to our time in Jacksonville Beach and Mayport. Dennis specializes in "near shore" fishing behind the shrimp boats and slow trolling in the summer months. He is also well versed in the art of tarpon fishing, like in the "old days". He has one of the largest tarpon ever caught off our beaches at around 200 lbs. Dennis has seen the changes in our sport throughout the years and has adapted nicely to the many new techniques and methods to give his customers the best chance at having a successful trip.  Capt. Dennis is also one of the better inshore guides knowing all the secret drop-offs and oyster bars to ensure customers a great experience with red bass, trout, flounder, sheepshead, etc. If you have the kids along, there is no better person to show them a good time and teach them the fundamentals of fishing. Capt. Dennis also can take you on an Eco Tour to just look at the different birds and wildlife along and in the waterways.
